María Isabel Serulle is a woman of deep spiritual and family values. She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but has been living in the Dominican Republic since she was two years old. She’s a mother of three children, an architect, and a philanthropic leader in Dominican society. She is particularly committed to raising awareness and generating support for the Perinatology Deparment de la Maternidad Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia in Santo Domingo.
After María Isabel’s newborn baby suffered from hypoglycemia and died, the intervention of a qualified medical team was able to restore life to the child. After this incident, María Isabel was grateful to God and modern medicine, and decided to offer her help to ensure no mother suffered the loss of a child who could have been saved with the correct medical support.
Her desire to improve the quality of life for the children who will become the future of our nation, motivated Maria Isabel to hold fundraising events for medical charities and to provide psychological help to both the Maternidad Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia and the CIF (Family Integration Center) at their entity. María Isabel has also worked with poor villages as part of her work with the Fundación Rica. She provides spiritual guidance to help women who have been abused by their fathers and/or their husbands.
As a result of María Isabel’s commitment to improving the lives of many in our society, her hard work in the Foundation has been recognized by a number of institutions, such as Brugal Cree en Su Gente, Aqui si hay Gente Buena of Diario Libre, the Ministry of Public Health, the Maternidad Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia, Grupo Carol Pediatrica, Cannes Lions, and the congress. She has also received strong support from the private business sector.
